Summer Residence in Porto Heli
Location: Porto Heli, Greece
Year: 2008
Status: Design proposal
Area: 200 sq.m.
In collaboration with C. Tessas
This summer residence comprises of two distinct volumes containing the main residential building and a guest house respectively. The morphological characteristics of the main building can be traced back to the indigenous architecture of the region as imposed by the planning regulations, while the use of different materials creates the facades. Moreover, the building is framed by a masonry wall enveloping the sloped roof, while the rest of the facade is split up to eight parts which project the arrangement of the interior spaces. These parts in turn are differentiated from each other by the use of wooden shading devices which develop the facade layout accordingly. The guest house was designed to be an abstract version of the main building, which does not compete with it and thus most of it is hidden from view. Both buildings are unified by the design of the landscape and the centrally placed swimming pool.
