Year: 2008
Status: Design proposal
Area: 240 sq.m.
In collaboration with C. Tessas
This building complex comprises of four independent ground floor residences with underground auxiliary spaces. These residences are unified through the landscaping of the exterior spaces that also signifies their entrances. The central approach to the architectural design of these summer residences was their integration to the character and the environment of the settlement, but at the same time retaining their individuality. This individuality is enchanced through the placement of the buildings on the East-West axis so that every house has a magnificent view and private outdoor spaces. Each house has openings from all sides, so that natural ventilation is achieved, while especially at the Eastern and Western facades these openings a large enough to unify the interior with the exterior spaces. At the Western facade, shading is accomplished by a metallic pergola housing a wooden grid that is designed so that adequate shading is achieved even in summer evenings. Thermal insulation is achieved through external insulating panels, while the prevision of photovoltaic panels on the roof can set each building to be electrically autonomous.
